Critics Consensus

Greyhound's characters aren't as robust as its action sequences, but this fast-paced World War II thriller benefits from its efficiently economical approach.

Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 28, 2020 Full Review Greyhound | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Manuel São Bento MSB Reviews Tom Hanks is fantastic as the protagonist, but his screenplay is far from truly being one. All dialogues revolve around characters (mostly Hanks') calling naval instructions for most of the runtime and looking either through a window or binoculars. Rated: C Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Greyhound | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Peter Bell Vague Visages Greyhound’s inability to venture further into the depths of wartime psychology leaves it susceptible to being forgotten just as quickly as it emerged. It needed a more focused plot and better developed characters. Rated: C+ Mar 8, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Julian M At first glance underdeveloped, at another extraordinary, Greyhound's writing and direction give for an all-consuming experience that perfectly involves the viewer in a highly applicable story of hope and leadership. Keeps you on the edge of your seat despite little character development Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Jedi B Excellent movie, Tom Hanks at his best. Constant action, kept me interested the entire movie. Loved it... Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Joel B One of my new favorite war movies of all time! An excellent movie! Tom Hanks plays an extremely good Destroyer Commander! I hope that there is a sequel. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/11/24 Full Review Alan C I found this gem on Apple TV plus. I love this movie. I watch it at least once a week. The story the action the acting is awesome! If this was a series I would definitely binge it! Band of brothers , The Pacific, and Masters of the Air all bad ass shows! Keep it up Mr. Hanks! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/24 Full Review Daniel G Though WWII is almost "ancient" history and warfare and communications have changed so much, this is a brief, hard-hitting, claustrophic, technically flawless movie about 48 hours crossing the North Atlantic during that deadly epoch. Tom Hanks wrote a perfect script and was totally convincing as the captain. There really was little time to outline the crew, cause everyone just was scared and wanted to survive. No surprise it got an Oscar nomination for best sound - almost like an homage to the specialists who had to listen to the sonars on the lookout for U-boats. Totally surprised this movie was made in Baton Rouge! Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/08/24 Full Review Read all reviews
