COST: $80,000
For their royal wedding cake, William and Kate selected a multi-tiered fruitcake designed by prestigious British baker Fiona Cairns. The eight-tiered cake was decorated with white icing and cream, along with 900 delicate sugar flowers — boasting 17 different types of blooms and foliage, no less.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana
COST: $40,000
Prince Charles’ royal wedding was seen by millions throughout the world, but did you know he and Princess Diana actually had 27 different cakes at their wedding? The official wedding cake, however, was supplied by Britain’s Naval Armed Forces, which took more than 14 weeks to make. Fun fact: the team actually made two identical cakes in case one was damaged. Another fun fact: a 34-year-old slice of the wedding cake sold in 2014 at an auction for more than $1,300.

Elvis and Priscilla Presley

In 1967, 32-year-old singer Elvis Presley and 21-year-old Priscilla Ann Beaulieu celebrated their wedding. Here, the couple’s pictured cutting the wedding cake at their Las Vegas reception — which would reportedly cost $22,000 today. The five-foot-tall six-tier yellow sponge cake was filled with apricot marmalade and Bavarian cream, then topped with over 1,500 marzipan roses.

When you throw a $1.5 million wedding shindig attended by the likes of Jack Nicholson and Goldie Hawn, you’ll want to present a spectacular cake. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones stepped it up at their 2000 ceremony with a 10-tier, six-foot-tall vanilla and butter cream wedding cake, covered with thousands of edible sugar flowers. In fact, the cake was so big it had to have two tiers removed in order to fit through the ballroom doors before being reassembled. After the wedding, the couple preserved the cake’s top tier and gave it to the bride’s mother.

Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto

While the precise cost of the wedding cake is unknown, former NBA superstar Michael Jordan spared no expense at his $10-million wedding to model Yvette Prieto. What we do know is that it was an all-white, seven-layer rum cake, covered in white fondant and sugar crystals and adorned with crystal brooches. The couples’ monogram appeared on the top layer.
