Bambino - Chapter 8 - SidewardsDog (2024)

Chapter Text

Maya, wanting some lunch, dashed into a cozy deli near her apartment, hoping to grab a quick bite. As she waited in line, she noticed a woman standing a few spots ahead of her. Something about her seemed familiar, and as Maya squinted, she realized with a jolt that the woman was someone she had been on a self-care date with recently. The memory of their time together, though pleasant, was now a bit awkward given the current situation.

When the woman turned around, Maya's heart skipped a beat. The woman recognized Maya almost instantly, her eyes widening slightly before a friendly, albeit surprised, smile spread across her face.

"Hey, Maya! Fancy seeing you here," the woman said warmly. "How have you been?"

Maya managed a smile, though she felt a twinge of unease. "Hi! Yeah, small world, right? I'm good, just grabbing some lunch. How about you?"

The woman chuckled, a little nervously, and replied, "I'm doing well. Just here for a quick bite too. It's nice to run into you."

They exchanged pleasantries, and Maya could feel the tension ease a bit as the conversation shifted to more neutral topics. They talked about their favorite menu items and recent experiences, trying to keep things light. Maya noticed that the woman was as charming and easygoing as she remembered.

When the conversation reached a natural pause, Maya decided to be upfront but polite. "I hope this isn't too awkward. It's just funny running into you like this."

The woman laughed softly, shaking her head. "Not awkward at all. It's nice to see a familiar face. If you ever want to catch up or grab coffee again sometime, let me know."

As Maya was about to leave the deli with her lunch, the woman suddenly brought up a more personal topic with a mischievous glint in her eye. "So, Maya, how about we skip the pleasantries and have a little afternoon delight? It was some of the best sex I've ever had."

Maya's eyes widened in surprise, and she quickly composed herself. She gave a polite smile, but her tone was firm. "I appreciate the offer, but I'm going to have to pass. I'm focused on some other things right now."

The woman's expression shifted slightly, but she managed a shrug. "Fair enough. It's a shame, though. I really enjoyed our time together."

Maya nodded, feeling a bit awkward but trying to maintain a friendly demeanor. "I'm glad you did. It was a good time. I hope you have a great day."

With that, Maya quickly said her goodbyes and headed out of the deli.

Maya and Vic had decided to go to the movie theater to see a new movie on their day off. As Maya and Vic settled into their favorite seats at the local movie theater, Vic glanced over with a curious expression. "So, how are things going with Carina? You two seemed to hit it off pretty well."

Maya shrugged, a smile playing at her lips. "Things are actually going really well. We've been spending a lot of time together, and I've enjoyed every moment. Alex is a great kid, too."

Vic raised an eyebrow, a teasing tone creeping into her voice. "Sounds like someone's smitten. Have you two had a serious talk about where things are heading?"

Maya's smile widened as she thought about their recent conversations. "We've talked about it, and we both agree we want to see where this goes. It's been nice getting to know her and Alex, and there's definitely something special there."

Vic grinned, clearly pleased for her friend. "That's awesome to hear. Just remember to keep communication open and honest. Relationships are always easier when you're on the same page."

Maya nodded, feeling a surge of confidence. "Definitely. We're taking things one step at a time, but I'm really looking forward to what's next."

Vic clinked her soda cup against Maya's in a celebratory gesture. "Here's to new beginnings and figuring things out together."

Maya turned to Vic with a playful glint in her eye. "So, I've been hearing whispers about a new love interest in your life. Care to share any details?"

Vic's eyes widened slightly, and she chuckled, looking both amused and slightly evasive. "Oh, you've heard about that, huh? I didn't think I was being that obvious."

Maya grinned, nudging Vic with her elbow. "It's hard to keep things under wraps when you're practically glowing. Spill the beans. Who's the lucky person?"

Vic glanced around the theater, then leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Alright, but you have to promise not to tell anyone else yet. I'm still figuring things out, and I'd like to keep it a bit private for now."

Maya nodded enthusiastically. "Got it. Your secret's safe with me. So, who's the mystery person?"

Vic's face softened as she spoke, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Her name is Elise. We met through some mutual friends, and we've been seeing each other a bit. She's smart, funny, and has this way of making me feel completely at ease."

Maya's eyes lit up. "That sounds fantastic. How's it been so far?"

Vic's smile grew wider. "It's been really great. We've had some amazing conversations and shared a few fun outings. It's still early days, but I'm enjoying getting to know her."

As the lights dimmed and the previews began to play, Maya's phone buzzed in her pocket. She glanced at the screen and saw Carina's name. With a quick apology to Vic, Maya answered the call, stepping out into the hallway.

"Hey, Carina, what's up?" Maya asked, her tone calm but alert.

Carina's voice came through, a touch frantic. "Maya, I'm so sorry to bother you, but I'm in a bit of a bind. Alex is at pre-school, and he's running a high fever. I need to get him, but I'm currently with a patient who needs an emergency c-section. I don't have anyone else who can pick him up right now."

Maya's heart sank at the thought of Alex being unwell. "Don't worry about it, Carina. I can go pick him up for you. Just focus on the surgery. I'll take care of everything."

Carina's relief was palpable. "Thank you so much, Maya. I really appreciate it. I'll come by to get Alex as soon as the surgery is over. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience."

Maya reassured her again. "It's no trouble at all. Just keep me updated if anything changes. I'll see you later."

After ending the call, Maya quickly relayed the situation to Vic, who nodded in understanding. "Go help Carina. We can catch the movie another time."

Maya gave Vic a grateful smile before hurrying to her car. As she drove toward the pre-school, she couldn't help but think about how much she'd come to care for Carina and Alex. Even though she was in the middle of an unexpected change in plans, helping them felt natural and right.

When she arrived at the pre-school, she went inside and quickly found Alex in the nurse's office, looking a bit forlorn but mostly just tired. Maya crouched down to his level, giving him a comforting smile. "Hey there, buddy. Looks like you're not feeling so great. How about we head home and get you all cozy?"

Alex's eyes brightened slightly at the sight of Maya. "Okay, Maya. I don't feel good."

Maya felt a wave of relief as she settled Alex into the borrowed car seat, securing him comfortably for the drive. Before setting off, she took a quick photo of Alex, who was looking a bit weary but was calm and settled in the backseat. She attached a reassuring message to the picture and sent it to Carina.

"Hi Carina, just letting you know that I've picked up Alex and we're heading back to my penthouse. Here's a picture of him all set in the car seat. Don't worry about rushing—take your time with the surgery. We'll be fine."

She added her address in a follow-up message to ensure Carina had the correct details. Thinking quickly Maya quickly placed an order at the local drug store for almost all medicines for children and also juice, pedilyte and a few snacks just in case.

As Maya waited for the attendant to bring out her purchases, she heard a sudden, unsettling sound from the backseat. She turned around just in time to see Alex begin to vomit, his tiny body heaving as he cried out. The sight immediately triggered a wave of concern in Maya. She quickly pulled the Jeep over to a safer spot and scrambled out of the driver's seat to tend to Alex.

She reached into the backseat, carefully checking on him and trying to comfort him. "Oh, Alex, it's okay. It's going to be alright," Maya said softly, her voice soothing as she reached for some tissues from the glove compartment. She started to clean up the mess as best as she could under the circ*mstances.

Seeing Alex's distress and knowing that he was unwell made her heart ache. She immediately turned her attention to making him more comfortable. Maya gently wiped his face and made sure he was settled in a way that would minimize any further discomfort.

After getting Alex cleaned up as best as she could, Maya checked the time and sent Carina a quick text update.

"Hi Carina, just a heads-up—Alex got sick in the car. I'm cleaning him up now, but I've got some medicine and supplies ready for him. We'll be waiting for you. Hope the surgery is going well."

As she finished up, Maya focused on calming Alex. She talked to him softly, reassuring him that everything would be okay. She made sure he was as comfortable as possible, offering him a little water to sip and gently stroking his hair.

Maya was just finishing up cleaning Alex and making him comfortable when the attendant approached with her purchase. Seeing Maya's concern for Alex and the state of the backseat, the attendant immediately recognized the urgency of the situation.

Maya, her worry evident, quickly approached the attendant. "Hi, I'm really sorry to bother you, but could you possibly help me with a couple more things? I need baby wipes and a spare set of clothes for Alex. He's not feeling well, and I didn't think to grab those items."

The attendant looked surprised but immediately understood the situation upon seeing Alex's discomfort. "Of course, let me get those for you." Without hesitation, the attendant took Maya's credit card and dashed back into the store.

In a few minutes, the attendant returned with a bag containing baby wipes and a change of clothes for Alex. She handed them to Maya with a sympathetic smile. "I hope he feels better soon."

Maya was touched by the gesture. "Thank you so much, I really appreciate it."

The attendant gave a reassuring nod. "No need to worry about it. I hope he feels better soon." With that, she walked back to the store, leaving Maya to tend to Alex.

As Maya arrived at her penthouse with Alex in her arms, she could see the relief in his eyes despite his discomfort. The ride up in the elevator was filled with soft reassurances from Maya, trying to make Alex feel as comfortable as possible.

When they reached the apartment, Maya carefully maneuvered through the door with Alex, the bags of supplies in one hand and Alex secured in the other. She gently set Alex down on the couch, setting the bags aside.

Alex looked up at Maya with a bit of admiration, his voice still slightly shaky but sincere. "You're really strong, Maya. I feel a little better now that I threw up."

Maya smiled warmly, brushing a lock of hair from Alex's forehead. "Thank you, Alex. I'm glad you're starting to feel a bit better. Let's get you comfy and then we can relax until your mom gets here."

Maya carefully helped Alex get cleaned up, using the baby wipes to gently wipe away the remnants of his earlier upset. As she changed him into the fresh clothes, she spoke softly, trying to keep him at ease. "There we go, all fresh and clean now. How are you feeling?"

Alex managed a small smile, looking more comfortable in his new clothes. "A little better," he murmured.

Maya then helped him settle onto the sofa, arranging the blankets around him to ensure he was cozy. She turned on the cartoons, picking a cheerful show to help distract him. As Alex began to focus on the screen, Maya carefully administered the medicine, following it with a bit of juice.

Next, she took his temperature, making sure everything was under control. Alex watched her with a curious gaze as she took the reading. "You're doing great, Alex. Let's just keep an eye on that temperature and make sure you're comfortable."

As Maya sat next to Alex, ensuring he was comfortable and content, he looked up at her with a tired but grateful smile. "You're almost as good as my Momma at taking care of me when I'm sick," he said, his voice soft and appreciative.

Maya's heart warmed at Alex's words. She brushed a stray lock of hair from his forehead and smiled back at him. "Thank you, Alex. I'm glad I can help. I just want you to feel better soon."

As Alex settled into a peaceful sleep against her, Maya's mind raced with practical concerns. She was glad to have been able to help Carina in an urgent situation, but she didn't want to find herself unprepared in the future. The situation had made her realize just how important it was to be ready for anything, especially when it involved caring for a child.

Maya pulled out her phone and began to search for a car seat that would fit her Jeep. She found a model that seemed reliable and easy to install, perfect for any future emergency pickups. She added it to her cart and made a quick purchase. Next, she ordered a variety of children's medicines, ensuring she had everything from fever reducers to anti-nausea options. Maya also picked up a selection of snacks, juice, and Pedialyte—items she hoped would be helpful if Alex or any other child she might care for fell ill again.

In addition to these essentials, Maya decided to get some toys for Alex to keep at her apartment. She wanted him to have something familiar and comforting if he needed to spend time at her place again. She selected a few plush toys and a small collection of age-appropriate games, imagining how they might brighten Alex's day and make him feel more at home.

After confirming her orders, Maya checked on the small body sleeping peacefully. Alex was nestled comfortably, his little body rising and falling with each breath. The soft glow of the television cast a gentle light on his face, and Maya felt a sense of calm wash over her. She made sure to check his temperature again, noticing that it had come down slightly, which was reassuring.

Maya couldn't help but think about how much she had come to care for Alex and, by extension, Carina. The unexpected situation had brought them closer and given her a new perspective on what it meant to be supportive and involved. She took a moment to appreciate the quiet comfort of the apartment, the faint sounds of the cartoons providing a soothing backdrop.

Carina's shift had been long and demanding, but seeing the series of texts from Maya brought a wave of relief and warmth. The photos of Alex—peacefully asleep against Maya on the sofa—spoke volumes about the care and comfort Maya was providing. Carina couldn't help but smile, feeling grateful and touched by Maya's kindness and readiness to step in when needed.

As she finished up her paperwork and prepared to leave the hospital, Carina quickly texted Maya back. "Just got out of surgery. I'm heading your way now. Thank you so much for everything you've done for Alex. It means the world to me."

She sent the message with a sense of urgency but also a deep appreciation. The thought of Maya taking care of Alex in her time of need made Carina's heart swell with gratitude. She finished gathering her belongings, took a deep breath, and headed toward the parking lot, her mind filled with thoughts of her son and the caring person who had stepped up to help him.

As she drove toward Maya's penthouse, Carina couldn't stop thinking about how Maya had handled everything with such grace and attentiveness. It wasn't just about the practical support; it was the genuine concern and affection that Maya had shown. Carina felt a growing sense of connection and appreciation for Maya, not just as a friend but as someone who was becoming an important part of her and Alex's lives.

By the time Carina arrived at Maya's building, she was eager to thank Maya in person and see Alex. She took the elevator up to the penthouse, her heart racing with a mix of gratitude and anticipation.

As Carina stepped out of the elevator and into Maya's penthouse, she was momentarily taken aback by the sheer size and elegance of the space. The opulent decor and expansive view of the city through the floor-to-ceiling windows were impressive, but her focus quickly shifted to the more pressing matter at hand—her son.

She quietly made her way over to the living room, where Maya was lying on the sofa with Alex nestled comfortably against her. Carina's heart melted at the sight of her son, so peaceful and content. She gently rubbed Alex's back, speaking softly to him in Italian, trying to keep her voice soothing and calm. The sight of Alex sleeping soundly, despite being unwell earlier, reassured her.

After a moment, Carina stood up and walked briskly towards the kitchen where Maya was standing, preparing to tidy up from the impromptu afternoon. Without hesitation, Carina reached Maya and wrapped her in a deep, heartfelt kiss. The kiss was both a thank you and an expression of the profound gratitude Carina felt. She held the kiss for a moment longer, savoring the connection and warmth.

When they finally broke apart, Carina's eyes were filled with emotion. "Thank you so much, Maya," she said earnestly, her voice thick with appreciation. "You have no idea how much this means to me. I was so worried, and you've been incredible."

Maya, slightly flushed from the kiss and touched by Carina's heartfelt words, smiled and gently brushed a strand of hair from Carina's face. "Of course, Carina. I'm just glad I could help. Alex is a great kid, and I'm happy to be here for him and for you."

As Carina settled into the plush armchair next to the sofa, her gaze never leaving Alex's peaceful form, a wave of emotion seemed to wash over her. She turned to Maya, her eyes reflecting the exhaustion and vulnerability she'd been holding in.

"It's just so hard, Maya," Carina began, her voice trembling slightly. "Being here all alone in this country with no family or close friends nearby... It's overwhelming sometimes. I feel like I'm just... navigating everything on my own."

Maya's heart ached seeing Carina's struggle. She walked over to her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I can only imagine how tough that must be. But please know, Carina, you don't have to go through it alone. You can always count on me. If you need anything, whether it's help with Alex, just someone to talk to, or even a friend to lean on, I'm here for you."

Carina looked up at Maya, her eyes welling up with gratitude. "Thank you, Maya. That means more to me than you could ever know. I've been feeling so isolated and it's hard to find the support I need. Knowing you're here for me is such a relief."

Maya gave her a reassuring smile, gently squeezing Carina's shoulder. "Absolutely. We're building something here, and I'm happy to be part of it. We'll figure things out together. You've already become important to me, and I want to support you however I can."

Maya, sensing Carina's weariness and knowing that Alex was peacefully asleep, took the initiative to suggest they order dinner. "Why don't I order us some dinner? We could use a break from all the chaos, and I'm sure you haven't had a chance to eat properly today," Maya said, her voice warm and considerate.

Carina, still visibly relieved and grateful, nodded in agreement. "That sounds perfect. Thank you, Maya. I'm not sure I could even think about cooking right now."

Maya picked up her phone and began scrolling through the delivery options. "How about Chinese food? It's quick, comforting, and we can get a variety of dishes. Plus, I know a great place that delivers."

Carina's face brightened at the suggestion. "Chinese sounds great. It's been a while since I had some good takeout. Maybe we could get some dumplings and a few of those noodle dishes I love?"

Maya quickly placed the order, making sure to include Carina's favorites and a few extra items to make sure they had plenty of options. As she finalized the order, she glanced over at Carina, who was now sitting comfortably on the sofa, her fingers gently brushing through Alex's hair.

Once the order was placed, Maya returned to the kitchen, grabbing a couple of glasses of wine. She handed one to Carina and clinked her glass gently against Carina's. "To a much-needed break and to being there for each other," Maya toasted.

Carina smiled and raised her glass in response. "To that and to new beginnings," she said, her voice filled with hope and warmth.

As they settled into the kitchen, Carina took a moment to look around Maya's penthouse. The elegant decor, the expansive space, and the stunning city view from the windows were all striking. Carina's eyes lingered on the details, clearly impressed.

"This place is amazing, Maya," Carina said, her voice filled with genuine admiration. "I've seen pictures of it before, but seeing it in person is something else entirely. The view is spectacular."

Maya smiled, a bit self-conscious but pleased. "Thank you. I love it here. It's a bit of a dream come true. It's nice to have a space that feels like home."

Carina continued, her gaze wandering over the modern furnishings and tasteful decorations. "You've done a fantastic job with it. It's so stylish and welcoming. I can see why you enjoy living here."

Maya chuckled lightly. "I've put a lot of effort into making it comfortable. I like having a place where I can unwind and feel at ease."

"You've really gone above and beyond tonight," Carina said softly, looking at Maya with a mix of gratitude and curiosity. "I'm so grateful for your help with Alex. You've done so much."

Maya shifted slightly, then sighed and said, "Actually, there's something I need to confess. I… I ordered a bunch of things for Alex to keep at my place. I wanted to make sure he's comfortable whenever he's here."

Carina's eyes widened with surprise and affection. "You did? What kind of things?"

Maya smiled, a bit sheepishly. "Well, I got a car seat for my Jeep, some basic medicines, snacks, juice, and Pedialyte. And I ordered a few toys too. I figured it would make things easier if he's ever sick or needs something while he's here."

Carina's expression softened even more, and she took Maya's hand in hers. "That's incredibly thoughtful of you, Maya. I know how much you must have put into this. It's not just about having a place for Alex; it's about making sure he feels at home."

Maya nodded, her cheeks flushing slightly. "I guess I'm just used to planning for every scenario. I want him to feel as comfortable here as he does with you."

Carina squeezed Maya's hand, her eyes shining with emotion. "I can see that, and it means so much to me. You've really gone out of your way, and it's just one more reason I'm grateful to have you in our lives."

Maya looked at Carina, her smile growing. "I'm glad. I really enjoy spending time with you and Alex. It feels right to make sure everything is ready for him."

As they dug into their Chinese food, the savory aroma filling the air, Maya glanced over at Carina, her curiosity getting the better of her.

"So, tell me about your emergency surgery," Maya said, her tone gentle but interested. "You mentioned you had a patient needing a c-section. How did it go?"

Carina paused, taking a moment to chew before answering. "It was a bit hectic, but everything turned out well. The patient was a young woman who was already in labor when she came in. Her condition wasn't improving, and it became clear that a c-section was necessary to ensure the baby's safety."

Maya nodded, attentive. "That must have been a stressful situation."

Carina sighed, nodding in agreement. "It was. There's always a lot of pressure in those moments, but the team I was with is excellent. We managed to get the baby out safely, and both mother and baby are doing well now."

Maya could see the relief in Carina's eyes, even as she spoke about the challenges. "I'm glad to hear that. It must be a huge relief to see a successful outcome after all that stress."

Carina smiled, a mix of pride and exhaustion on her face. "Yes, it is. It's moments like these that remind me why I do what I do. The hard work is worth it when you see the joy of a new life coming into the world."

Maya took a sip of her drink, her gaze warm as she looked at Carina. "You're doing incredible work, Carina. I can only imagine the impact you're having on your patients' lives."

Carina's smile grew, a blush of gratitude on her cheeks. "Thank you, Maya. That means a lot. It's not always easy, but knowing I'm making a difference helps me keep going."

As they were finishing up their meal, the peaceful ambiance of the evening was abruptly interrupted by Alex's distressed cries from the sofa. Carina and Maya exchanged concerned glances and hurried over to him.

Maya gently stroked Alex's back while Carina checked his temperature and whispered soothing words in Italian. Maya's eyes quickly darted to the clock on the wall, noting the time.

"I think it's time for his next dose of medicine," Maya said, her voice laced with concern. "Let me get it."

Carina nodded, her worry evident as she continued to comfort Alex. "Thank you, Maya. I don't know what I'd do without your help tonight."

Maya swiftly moved to the kitchen, grabbing the medicine and a glass of water. She returned to the living room, carefully measuring out the dose and then handing it to Alex. "Here, buddy, this will help you feel better."

Alex looked up at her with tired, teary eyes, accepting the medicine with a small nod. Maya gently helped him take it, then settled him back against the pillows.

As Alex began to calm down, Carina rubbed his back and continued to speak softly to him, trying to reassure him. Maya watched, feeling a mix of empathy and admiration for Carina's tender care.

"There we go," Maya said softly, "hopefully, that helps him settle down."

Carina gave Maya a grateful look. "Thank you so much. I really appreciate you being here for us."

s Maya was tidying up after dinner, Carina approached her, her eyes filled with warmth and gratitude. She stepped closer to Maya, her movements deliberate and tender.

"Maya," Carina murmured, "I can't thank you enough for everything tonight."

Before Maya could respond, Carina's lips met hers in a deep, lingering kiss. Maya's heart raced as Carina's arms wrapped around her, sliding down Maya's body with a gentle, affectionate touch. Carina's fingers grazed over Maya's crotch, feeling the slight outline of her impressive dick through her clothes.

Maya gasped softly into the kiss, her senses heightened. She responded by pulling Carina closer, her hands exploring Carina's curves with a mix of eagerness and tenderness. She let her fingers rest on Carina's ass, feeling the warmth and softness of her body.

The kiss deepened as their bodies pressed closer together, both lost in the moment of connection and affection. They took their time, savoring the closeness and the mutual desire that had been building between them.

Eventually, they pulled away slightly, their breaths mingling as they gazed into each other's eyes. Carina's face was flushed, a mix of emotions clear in her expression.

Carina gently woke Alex, careful not to disturb his sleep too much. She gathered his things and headed toward the door, with Maya following closely behind. Maya carried Alex downstairs, his small, sleeping form cradled carefully in her arms. At the car, Carina opened the back door while Maya helped to place Alex into his car seat, ensuring he was securely fastened and comfortable.

Maya then took the borrowed car seat from the pre-school and placed it in the trunk of Carina's car. As she closed the trunk, Carina approached her, her eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and affection.

"Maya," Carina said softly, pulling her close for one more kiss. It was a tender, lingering moment, filled with the promise of more shared experiences and deepening feelings.

Maya smiled as she pulled away, her heart full as she watched Carina settle into the driver's seat. She waved as Carina started the engine and began to drive away, the sight of Carina and the sleeping Alex disappearing down the street.
